History+
The origins of Bosjökloster date back to 1080 when it was founded by Benedictines. A document from 1181, issued under Pope Lucius III, confirms the abbey's rights at that time. Local tradition holds that Tord Thott made the first donation to the founders. In the 16th century, during the Danish Reformation, the nunnery was dissolved and became property of the Danish Crown. It was later transferred to Torbern Bille, the former Archbishop of Lund, on the condition that he care for the remaining nuns. In 1560, Frederick II of Denmark transferred the estate in exchange to Thale Ulfstand, whose initials and the year 1569 are still visible on the large oak entrance door. Through marriage, the former monastery came into the possession of the Beck family in 1629.
