In the municipality of Bottmingen, south of Basel, stands Bottmingen Castle, a moated castle dating back to the 13th century. It is an example of well-preserved moated castles in Switzerland, which reveals its medieval roots despite later alterations.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle dates to 1363, when it was owned by the Kämmerer family, an aristocratic lineage considered the probable builders. In 1720, under Johannes Deucher, the castle underwent transformation into a country estate in the French early Baroque style, whose architecture largely remains preserved today.
