Bouchout Castle

In the Belgian town of Meise stands Bouchout Castle, a structure whose roots date back to the 12th century. Once a fortress in the Duchy of Brabant, it now presents itself as a castle.
History+
The origins of Bouchout Castle date back to the 12th century, when it was built as a castle in the Duchy of Brabant to secure the border between Flanders and the Lords of Grimbergen. Around 1300, the complex was owned by Daniel van Bouchout. In the 15th and 16th centuries, ownership passed to the Van der Marck and Transylvan families. Around 1600, it was renovated by Christoffel d'Assonville, and at the end of the 17th century, Peter-Ferdinand Roose had the castle converted into a Renaissance palace.
