Brackenheim Castle, a historic building in the town of Brackenheim in the Heilbronn district, was originally conceived as a medieval fortress and transformed into a castle.

History+

The origins of Brackenheim Castle likely date back to the High Middle Ages, when the Lords of Magenheim developed the settlement into a town and erected a new castle at its southwestern corner. In the 14th century, the complex came into the possession of the House of Württemberg. A redesign took place between 1550 and 1565 under Duke Christoph, during which most of the old castle was demolished and replaced by a new building. Only a keep remained until 1822. Master builder Martin Berwart directed this reconstruction, creating a three-winged complex.
