Brandenstein Castle

Brandenstein was first documented in 1362 as “Ghezerik” and later in 1459 as “Iserigk,” at which time it was owned by the von Krussow family. A moment in the property's history occurred in 1507 when Lippold I von Arnim acquired the Brandenstein estate as a fief. Following the transfer of regional sovereignty to the Brandenburg Duchy of Magdeburg in 1680, Brandenstein was assigned to the Jerichow general district. Under Prussian rule, a division into two districts took place in 1785, with Brandenstein falling into District Jerichow II. During the Westphalian interim rule, the locality belonged to the Kurmark from 1807, and after the Wars of Liberation, to the Jerichow II district of the Magdeburg administrative region in the Prussian Province of Saxony.
