Brandis Castle

The origins of the current Brandis Castle date back to the 12th century, when a manor house stood on this site. Around 1700, Kraft Burchhard von Bodenhausen acquired the property. His son, Otto Wilhelm von Bodenhausen, had the current Baroque castle built between 1724 and 1727 according to designs by David Schatz. A larger construction was originally planned, but the west wing remained unfinished. In 1849, the castle passed into the possession of Baron Friedrich von Pentz, who had it renovated in 1875 and extended with a western annex and a veranda. From 1930 to 1945, the complex belonged to Major Otto Busse, under whom it was recognized as a cultural monument in 1941.
