Breitenbruck Castle

The first mention of Breitenbruck dates back to the Babenberg Urbarium of 1230. In 1368, Breitenbruck Castle was documented as a princely fief of Wolfhart Breitenbrucker. During the Hussite Wars, the complex suffered destruction. In 1441, Jörg Breitenbrucker sold the castle to Valentin von Hohenegg. Through the marriage of his daughter Sarah to Gotthard von Tattenbach in 1619, the castle became his property as a dowry. Further changes of ownership followed, including Hans Handl von Ramingdorf (1627) and Count Heinrich von Starhemberg (1637). With its integration into the Riedegg dominion, Breitenbruck lost its administrative function and began to decay. In the 19th century, it was acquired by two farmers and converted into an agricultural enterprise.
