Breiteneich Castle, a historic structure in the Horn district of Lower Austria, is an example of early Renaissance architecture in the region. Originally a medieval fortress, it evolved into one of Austria's Renaissance castles.

History+

The first documented mention of Breiteneich Castle dates back to 1223, when a noble family, named after the locality, resided here and likely founded the manor. The castle changed hands numerous times, including families such as the Fronhammer, Rappach, and Hoyos. In 1537, Erasmus von Schneckenreith was the owner. During his time, the medieval castle was transformed into a Renaissance castle. Just a few years later, in 1542, Margaretha von Schneckenreith sold the estate to Veit Salchinger.
