History+
The history of the site stretches back to a Roman estate and an Apollo-Grannus sanctuary. Later, it was under Alemannic rule and from the 8th century, a Frankish noble residence. A fortified complex likely existed here from the 10th or 11th century. After destruction during the Thirty Years' War around 1631 or 1634, the castle was largely rebuilt. In 1617, Brenz Castle became an appanage of Duke Julius Friedrich of Württemberg-Weiltingen, who had it expanded into a secondary residence. The castle's current appearance dates from a construction phase between 1667 and 1672, incorporating older structural elements.
