Bronnen Castle stands on a steep cliff in the Upper Danube Valley near Fridingen an der Donau. This structure in the Tuttlingen district, Baden-Württemberg, has been associated with the noble family of Enzberg for centuries.

History+

The origins of Bronnen Castle date back to approximately 1100 to 1150, when a local free noble family had the complex built. Around 1200, the Lords of Bronnen were first mentioned in records. In 1241, the castle, along with the town of Mühlheim, came into the possession of the Counts of Zollern. Friedrich von Zollern pledged the castle in 1303 to the Bishop of Constance and again in 1380 to Swigger von Gundelfingen, who in 1389 included Hans von Zimmern in the pledge community. In 1391, Knight Konrad von Weitingen acquired the lordship from Count Friedrich V von Hohenzollern-Schalksburg. Finally, Volz and Konrad von Weitingen sold the castle in 1409 to Friedrich and Engelhard von Enzberg, whose family henceforth determined the fate of the castle.
