Perched on a picturesque hilltop at the foot of the Hochstein in Lienz, East Tyrol, stands Bruck Castle. This historic edifice, once the residence of the Counts of Görz, now houses an important museum and serves as a cultural focal point in the region.

History+

Bruck Castle was constructed between 1252 and 1277 by the Counts of Görz, who used it as their residence until 1500. Following the childless death of the last Görz count, Leonhard, in the same year, the property passed to King Maximilian I and was united with the County of Tyrol. After a brief period under Virgil von Graben, Maximilian sold the castle in 1501 to Michael von Wolkenstein. The Wolkenstein family inhabited the castle until approximately 1608, before constructing the Liebburg in Lienz as a new residence due to the climatic conditions.
