In Plettenberg-Ohle in the Märkischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, lies Schloss Brüninghausen, an estate with two connected castle houses. It today serves as a private residence.

History+

The exact date of construction of Schloss Brüninghausen is not known. However, it was first mentioned in a document in 1311 as a fief of the Archbishop of Cologne under the name “bona Brunnenchusen”. The estate was once a tower and mill property and served as the ancestral home of the Brünninghausen family. Until the early 19th century, it was surrounded by a moat, as it stood in a pond that was later drained. Today, it is owned by the noble family von Wrede.
