Brunnsee Castle

The castle was built in the 15th century by the Lords of Pressnitz and converted into a moated castle in the 16th century. In the mid-17th century, it was rebuilt into its current form by Bartolomeo Montiano from Milan. Further alterations took place at the end of the 19th century. Other owners of the castle included the Lords of Aspach and Khuenburger.

In 1837, ownership passed to Duchess Caroline of Berry, who developed the castle into a summer residence. The Duchess (1798-1870) was the daughter-in-law of the French King Charles X and was married in her second marriage to Marchese Lucchesi-Palli (whose descendants still own the castle today). She attempted to place her son, the Duke of Bordeaux, later the Count of Chambord, on the throne of France.
