Buchenau Castle

Buchenau Castle was built as the residence of "Ferdinand von Poschinger" in 1840. From 1868-1870, it was expanded in the "Historicism" style to its current form and size. After the death of the widow of the last Poschinger of Buchenau, the castle became orphaned. In 1942, the already well-known cookbook author "Erna Horn" bought Buchenau Castle together with her husband Dr. Julius Arndt. After Erna Horn's death, the couple's former employees, Emilie Meislinger Arndt and Theresia Arndt, inherited the property. Until the seventies, Buchenau was dedicated to enjoyment through Erna Horn's test kitchen and cookbook publishing house. Erna Horn was one of Germany's most famous cookbook authors in the 1950s and 1960s. Her husband built the largest German-language cookbook collection of that time. Since spring 2006, Buchenau Castle has been owned by the "Förderkreis" (Support Association) of the same name.
