Schloss Burg, the largest reconstructed castle complex in North Rhine-Westphalia, is located approximately 190 meters above sea level in Solingen-Burg an der Wupper. It was once the second ancestral seat of the Counts and Dukes of Berg.

History+

The origins of Schloss Burg date back to the early 12th century, when Adolf II of Berg had the castle built as a new ancestral seat after 1133. Previously, the counts resided at Burg Berge in Odenthal-Altenberg. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the complex served as the main residence of the Counts of Berg. It played a role in the War of the Limburg Succession: after the Battle of Worringen in 1288, the defeated Archbishop Siegfried of Westerburg of Cologne was imprisoned here. In the 15th century, after renovations into a hunting lodge, the complex received its current name.
