Schloss Burgau is a moated castle in Düren-Niederau, on the edge of the Burgau Forest.

History+

The first documented mention of Burgau Castle dates back to November 19, 1313. Originally a fief of Heinsberg, it passed to the Duchy of Jülich in 1484. Amilius von Auwe is named as the first owner in the 13th century, and in 1475, ownership transferred to the von Elmpt family. Later, the von Binsfeld and Metternich families were also temporary owners. Around 1900, Countess von Keyserlingk inherited the castle, but sold it in 1915 to Ernst Nienhausen. Subsequently, the castle stood empty and fell into disrepair.
