In Burgberg, a district of Giengen an der Brenz, stands Schloss Burgberg. This complex, comprising two four-story buildings with gabled roofs separated by a narrow courtyard, incorporates the remnants of a medieval castle at its core, whose ancient curtain wall still defines the irregular outline of the property.

History+

The castle's origins trace back to a fortress of the minor noble family, the Knights of Berg, first documented in 1425 as "Burgbergk." These knights served the Margraves of Burgau and, at times, the Counts of Helfenstein. Around 1630, the complex suffered devastation. In 1664, a reconstruction was undertaken by the new owner, Count Joachim Gottfried von Grafeneck.
