Burgdorf Castle

Burgdorf Castle

To be privately owned

The origin of the castle lies in an old fortress, which was mentioned in 1260 as "castrum Borchdorp" in the possession of the Bishops of Hildesheim. In 1433, Duke Otto von der Heide had Burgdorf Castle rebuilt and surrounded with a rampart and double moat. In 1641, the castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in 1642 as an administrative building. From 1705, the castle served exclusively as an administrative seat.
