Burgistein Castle, a complex in the canton of Bern, received its current appearance in the 16th century.

History+

The origins of Burgistein Castle date back to the mid-13th century, when Jordan von Thun commissioned the construction of the original castle. A significant event was the destruction of the complex in 1339 by the Bernese, shortly after the Battle of Laupen. The Bernese chronicler Konrad Justinger reports that Jordan III von Burgistein was killed in the castle by a marksman named Ryffli.
