Burgkemnitz Castle
In Burgkemnitz, in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, stands a Renaissance edifice with distinctive corner towers, facades, and gables, set amidst a park with several ponds.
History+
The origins trace back to a former moated castle. In 1665, Bodo von Bodenhausen commissioned the construction of a new Baroque castle on this site. In 1869/70, the building was redesigned in the Neo-Renaissance style under the direction of his descendant Bodo Freiherr von Bodenhausen. The last private owner was District Administrator Kraft Freiherr von Bodenhausen, who was dispossessed as part of the land reform. After 1990, the estate became the property of the Bitterfeld district, which made it available to Caritas as a residential and nursing home until 2002.
