Caspersbroich Castle (Ohligs)

The origins of Caspersbroich Castle date back to around 1220, when a vassal of Count Engelbert the Saint settled in the region. He cultivated the marshy areas along the Itter and built a first manor house. In 1438, Junker Caspar von Pertsdorf acquired the property and expanded it into a knight's seat. Von Pertsdorf also served as bailiff in Solingen between 1460 and 1480. In the following centuries, the castle changed hands multiple times, including to the von Bawyr family. Until 1808, Caspersbroich belonged to the parish of Wald. Through marriage, the castle came into the possession of the von Romberg family in 1772, but in 1809, Clemens Conrad Franz von Romberg had to sell the property again. In 1810, it passed into bourgeois ownership when it was acquired by its former tenant, Johann Adolf Holthausen.
