Charlottenborg Palace in Copenhagen is a significant historical building that once served as a royal secondary residence and now houses the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Its central location and architectural importance make it a prominent landmark in the cityscape of the Danish capital.

The origins of the site trace back to a gift from King Christian IV to his mistress Wiebke Kruse, who established a garden here. After her death, the property passed to their son, Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve. Later, it was acquired by Ulrik Frederik Gyldenløve, an illegitimate son of King Frederik III and half-brother of the later King Christian V. With royal permission, Ulrik Frederik erected a stately palace here between 1672 and 1683, which was the first permanent building on the newly planned Kongens Nytorv. Following Christian V's death, his widow, Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel, purchased the palace in 1699 and used it as her dower house. She had it expanded and named it Charlottenborg after herself. Since 1754, the palace has been home to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
