Clausholm Castle, an impressive Baroque castle complex, is located in Central Jutland, Denmark, southeast of Randers. It is considered Denmark's best-preserved Baroque castle and captivates with its largely original interior.

History+

The first documented mention of Clausholm dates back to the early 14th century, when Lage Ovesen, a key figure in the Jutland uprising of 1359 against Valdemar Atterdag, was named as its owner. The current castle structure was built starting in 1690, commissioned by Prime Minister Conrad von Reventlow. His daughter, Anna Sophie von Reventlow, later resided in this castle as queen dowager.

Clausholm Castle is situated in Voldum in the Favrskov district, in the Midtjylland (Central Jutland) region of Denmark, at an elevation of approximately 11 meters above sea level.

Clausholm remains in private ownership and is accessible to visitors. The castle retains much of its original interior, including stucco ceilings, tapestries, and a chapel with a historic organ. The Baroque garden, complete with its fountain, was restored in 1976 and also stands as a testament to the historical splendor of the estate.
