Cotta Castle

The estate's origins date back to the year 1000, when the Burgraves of Dohna established a manorial district. An outwork was first documented in 1307, which the Lords of Kospoth expanded into a knight's estate in the 16th century. Carl Freiherr von Friesen acquired the knight's estate in 1661 and began constructing a new castle in 1662, while the former manor house was converted into a brewery. In 1821, the Friesian estate changed hands, purchased by Gottfried Christoph Härtel, a Leipzig bookseller. His daughter, Elwine Freifrau von Leyser, initiated a Neoclassical redesign starting in 1833, based on designs by Woldemar Hermann. Through her second husband, Eduard von Burchardi, the estate passed to the Bohemian Baron Bradský von Laboun in 1868.
