Crivitz Caastle

The origins of the castle probably lie before 1300 in the construction of a "fortified house" on the remains of a Slavic rampart. The castle was mentioned in 1326 and 1334. In 1334, the pledging of the castle (Burg) of Crivitz to the Lords of Bülow and Knight Eckard von Bibow by the Counts of Schwerin is mentioned. From the 14th century to 1752, frequent pledges of the castle (Burg) and the town followed. Presumably from 1505, the castle served as the seat of the Crivitz Vogtship and from 1547 as the Crivitz Office. From 1885 to 1886, the office building was constructed, incorporating the previous building. During the Third Reich, the castle served as accommodation for the Reich Labour Service, a secondary school, and an orphanage. In 1951, it was converted into a hospital. In 1996, the half-timbered building (former residence of the Landdrost) was demolished as part of conversion and expansion measures (e.g., a new ward building).
