Dachsberg Castle

The origins of the Dachsberg estate date back to around 1200, when the noble family Daxberger, a collateral line of the Lords of Prambach, was first mentioned. This family held its property as a free allodial possession but later had to place itself under the protection of the Schaunbergers. In the 14th century, the administration of the estate was transferred to burgraves. In 1315, Friedrich Clingwurm endowed a chapel on the then-existing castle. Jörg von Dachsberg, the last representative of the family, bequeathed the estate in 1423 to his grandnephews from Starhemberg. After several changes of ownership, Dachsberg came into the possession of Wolfgang von Oedt in 1579 as a dowry. He began constructing the current castle, utilizing materials from the older fortress. Under the Schifers, the castle was plundered in 1626 during a peasant uprising and rebuilt after a fire in 1672.
