On the western edge of the village of Damtschach in the Carinthian municipality of Wernberg, Damtschach Castle stands, a complex with roots in the early 16th century. The castle has been owned by the Orsini-Rosenberg family since 1847.

History+

The origins of Damtschach Castle lie in a fortified farmstead that belonged to Aichelberg Castle. After Aichelberg was destroyed in the conflicts between Emperor Frederick III and King Matthias Corvinus, Emperor Maximilian I approved the expansion of the farmstead. Augustin Khevenhüller then built a manor, which was not inhabited by his family but managed by administrators. In 1629, the estate changed hands when Paul Freiherr von Khevenhüller sold it to Hans Sigmund Graf von Wagensperg. Through his granddaughter, it came into the possession of the Counts Galler, who transformed the castle into a Baroque ensemble from 1684 onwards.
