Dautenstein Castle, once a moated castle, is in Seelbach in the Ortenau district, Baden-Württemberg.

History+

The origins of Dautenstein Castle date back to the Staufer period. Presumably around 1235, the imperial ministeriales of Dautenstein built a low-lying castle that followed the Staufer building scheme with a rectangular layout and four round corner towers. The complex suffered destruction during the Peasants' War but was rebuilt in 1594 by Jakob von Geroldseck in the late Renaissance style and subsequently served as the residence of the Lords of Hohengeroldseck.
