A castle is first mentioned in 1345 as being owned by Hartung Schweppermann. In 1387, Ulrich Schweppermann becomes the owner of the castle. From 1630-35, the Swedes devastate the town. The castle is burned down. In 1697, Johann Franz Heinrich von Löwenthal rebuilds the castle.
