Detzel Castle

Detzel Castle is a hunting lodge north of Haldensleben in Saxony-Anhalt, located east of the road from Haldensleben to Satuelle in a wooded area. West of the castle lies the Detzel Estate, which at times served as the castle's farmstead.

The castle was built in 1844 as a hunting lodge according to plans by Carl Friedrich Schinkel. Other reports claim that the castle is based on a sketch by King Frederick William IV. The builder was the owner of the Detzel Estate, Baron Hermann von Bonin. After his death, his daughter Adolphine inherited the castle and donated it to Johanne Nathusius for the establishment of a home for the mentally disabled. From 1864, Detzel Castle became an outpost of the Neinstedt Institutions and offered space for at times more than 70 residents. The first seven children moved into the castle on January 5, 1864. The solemn consecration of the house, initially run as the "Kreuzhilfe Asylum," took place on January 26, 1864. Today, the residents live in Calvörde, having received a new residential complex.

After the Neinstedt Institutions abandoned the Detzel site, the castle stood empty since 2002. In 2010, the castle was sold and renovated by the new owners starting in November 2011. The renovation was completed in October 2012, and the buildings have been occupied by the new owners. Today, the castle serves as a production site for SHP Steriltechnik AG, but also offers the possibility to get married in the historic hunting room or in the park as an outpost of the Haldensleben registry office.
