Deufringen Castle

The origins of Deufringen Castle stretch back, with a predecessor building suspected on this site as early as the 14th century. The current castle, also known as Gültlingen Castle, was constructed in 1592. The builder was Jakob von Gültlingen, who served as the senior bailiff of Schorndorf at the time. The design came from the master builder Heinrich Schickhardt. The Gültlingen family held the fief from 1402 to 1699 and used the castle as their ancestral seat. In 1699, Johann Conrad von Gültlingen returned the fief to the House of Württemberg, which passed it on to Privy Councillor von Schütz. He, in turn, returned it in 1726. A transformation occurred in 1746 when the building was converted into a parsonage. Until 1976, it served the Protestant community and was owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
