Deutschhof Castle

The origins of the Deutschhof date back to the founding of a Teutonic Order Commandery in 1225. This was established on lands donated by Ulrich II von Dürn to the Order. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the Commandery developed into an independent dominion within the Imperial City of Heilbronn. In the 16th century, the Small Deutschhof was built in Renaissance style, including structures such as the Commandery building (1512), the stepped-gable house (1546/50), and the knight's hostel (1566). During the Peasants' War in 1525, the Deutschhof was plundered. In the Thirty Years' War, it served as General Gustaf Horn's headquarters in 1631.
