Dietach Castle

The first mention of a Rudolf von Dudich dates back to 1170. In 1260, Ulrich von Tuedich was named as the feudal lord. At the end of the 14th century, Kremsmünster Abbey granted Dietach to Hans von Liechtenstein, who, however, fell out of favor in 1395. In 1383, Duke Albrecht III permitted the Wels citizen Ulrich Haunold to construct the residence in stone, with the condition that the walls should not be too thick. The Haunold family held the fief until 1429, before Kaspar Haunolt sold the tower to Jakob Gulher. Through a petition from Gulher's daughter, the fief passed to her son from a second marriage, Hans Pirchinger. The Pirchingers, who resided at Dietach until 1550, carried out the initial extensions.
