Dilborn Castle (Brüggen)

The origins of Dilborn Castle date back to the 13th century when it was granted as a fief by Duke Eduard of Geldern to the Lords Seger von Swalmen. It was first documented in 1363. Between 1583 and 1854, the castle was owned by the von Elmpt and Geloes families. After the construction of the east wing in 1583, there were no further investments for a long time. Later owners, such as the von Hoesch family and the Imperial Counts von Hallberg, witnessed the decay of the east wing, which eventually had to be demolished. A period of stabilization began in 1854 with the sale to Imperial Count Julius von Schaesberg, who had a neo-Gothic castle chapel built and the garden redesigned.
