Ditterswind Castle

The origins of Ditterswind suggest a Slavic settlement. In the Middle Ages, various landlords resided here. From the 17th century, the Lords of Stein zu Altenstein were established, who were already among the co-heirs of the lordship in the 14th century. Around 1711, they began the construction of the new castle, which was delayed until 1743 due to financial difficulties. Towards the end of the 18th century, the property passed to the Fuchs von Bimbach und Dornheim family. From 1841 to 1950, the von Deuster family owned the castle, renovating and expanding it in Neo-Renaissance forms from 1880. After World War II, the castle briefly served as a refugee camp before Carl von Deuster made the premises available to the Inner Mission from 1947. In 1950, the Rummelsberger Anstalten acquired the castle, which initially housed an orphanage and has been used as a nursing home since 1967. A renovation took place between 1984 and 1987.
