Ditzingen Castle

Ditzingen Castle is a castle built in the 15th century in Ditzingen in the district of Ludwigsburg.

The castle is a two-story building with an upper half-timbered floor and a half-hipped roof. A presumably former outbuilding is connected to the main building by a corridor, creating a two-winged building. The complex is walled and surrounded by a moat. The castle is located in the middle of a approximately 2-hectare park belonging to the castle grounds, in which there is a half-timbered barn from the 17th or 18th century.

The castle was built in 1420 by the Lords of Gültlingen on the site of a vanished castle. In 1543 the complex was destroyed, but rebuilt a year later under Württemberg ownership. In 1665 the castle was bought by the Lords of Münchingen. In 1693 the castle was destroyed again, but rebuilt. In 1891 it came into the possession of the Barons Hiller von Gaertringen. Today, the park belonging to the castle is publicly accessible, while the castle itself is privately owned.
