In Rhineland-Palatinate, Dodenburg Castle combines the historical roots of a moated castle with the appearance of a Baroque palace.

History+

The Dodenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1279 in Trier records under the name “Dudenburg”. As early as 1231, there is an indirect mention of the area when the Archbishop Theoderich of Trier confirmed a settlement between Himmerod Abbey and Werner von der Pforte zu Bruch regarding lands “not far from Dodenburg”. The original moated castle gave the place its name. Between 1791 and 1794, the complex underwent reconstruction by the Imperial Counts of Kesselstatt, who gave it its present Baroque appearance.
