Dörnberg Castle (Neustadt)
Dörnberg Castle is a former late Gothic castle in Neustadt (Hesse) in the Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf, (Germany).
The castle was built around 1270 by Count Ludwig II of Ziegenhain. From 1477 to 1489, the castle was then built on the stone substructure of the castle by the Hessian Hofmeister Hans von Dörnberg according to plans by the fortress builder Hans Jakob von Ettlingen. On Dörnberg's instructions, the Junker-Hansen-Turm, built by Ettlingen in 1480, until then part of the city fortifications, was used as an extension of the new castle.
From 1549 to 1802, the castle was the official residence of the Mainz bailiff and subsequently from 1802 to 1943 a district court. After temporary use as a refugee home after the Second World War, the building was used as a town hall from 1952. From 1987 to 1988, the building was extensively restored.
