Domeneck Castle

The origins of Domeneck date back to 1270, when the Tumminge von Domeneck owned a castle here. In 1420, the complex passed to Engelhard von Berlichingen, before being sold to the Lords Stumpff von Schweinberg in 1424. Originally a fief of the Lords of Weinsberg, the castle came into the possession of Duke Ulrich of Württemberg in 1504 during the War of the Landshut Succession. An event was the storming and burning of the castle in the Peasants' War of 1525. After the extinction of the Stumpff von Schweinberg line, Duke Ulrich granted the fief in 1534 to the Lords of Hardheim. Following the death of Georg Wolf von Hardheim in 1607, Württemberg reclaimed the fief and granted it to the Lords of Herda in 1628. Ownership changed hands multiple times through inheritance and sale, until the Lords of Simolin-Bathory were the owners in 1889. The current castle buildings predominantly date from the Baroque era.
