Dornach Castle, located directly on the Danube, is an example of Neo-Baroque architecture in Upper Austria. Originally a farmstead, it was transformed into a castle at the end of the 19th century and now serves as an event venue.

History+

The origins of Dornach Castle date back to 1455, when a farmstead was first documented on this site. In 1890, the then owner Cornelius Reischl sold the property to Princess Maria Theresia of Thurn und Taxis. She had the farmstead converted into the present-day castle. In 1893, the Swedish poet August Strindberg lived in the castle with his family. After several changes of ownership, including the Bragança family and Baron Viktor von Offermann, the Gschösser and Ebenbichler families from Tyrol acquired the castle in 2003 and began renovations. Since 2010, it has been a center for cultural events, including the Grenzfluss Worldjazz Festival.
