Dornhof Castle

The origins of the current Dornhof Castle can be traced back to an older castle complex, first documented in 1162 and now known as Altdornhof. However, only a few remnants of its walls remain. The present, solidly built castle was originally constructed in the late 15th century. In 1560, Martin (or Daniel) von Staudach was named as its builder. It is believed that the castle was renovated and expanded in the second half of the 16th century. In 1589, the brothers Georg and Ehrenreich Megerl acquired the estate and later received the predicate "von und zu Dornhof". After a brief period in the possession of the city of St. Veit in the late 18th century, it was auctioned in 1797 and subsequently changed owners frequently. Since 1888, Dornhof Castle has been owned by the Kampl family.
