Drakenburg Castle

The original castle complex, which gave the village its name, likely emerged in the 12th century and was owned by the Counts of Wölpe, who resided there temporarily. In the 13th century, they moved their main seat. After the Wölpe lineage died out in 1302, the castle passed to the Counts of Hoya. During the Mandelsloh Feud in the 14th century, probably around 1390, the castle was destroyed. The extent of any reconstruction is unclear, and after 1450, there is no clear evidence of its continued existence.
