Droyßig Castle

The origins of Droyßig Castle lie in a crusader castle constructed in the early 13th century to secure an important crossroads. Under the guidance of a master builder, a complex with a double wall ring and six semi-circular towers, surrounded by a moat, was erected. A large round tower formed the center, and access was via a drawbridge. With the advent of firearms, the castle lost its military significance. In the early 17th century, under Christian Julius von Hoym, it was converted into the present castle complex, with some of the original fortifications preserved. The castle church, built in 1622 over the former moat, features a facade in the style of Renaissance palaces with elements of the approaching Baroque and houses a crypt.
