In Karlovac, Croatia, stands Dubovac Castle, a structure whose origins date back to the 13th century. It is an example of the region's defensive architecture.

History+

The history of Dubovac Castle likely began in the 13th century with the construction of a square tower. In the 15th century, the castle underwent renovation in the Renaissance style. Ownership changed frequently, including noble families such as the Sudar, and the Frankopan and Zrinski. From 1671 to 1809, it was owned by the generals of Karlovac. In 1837, the new owner, Count Laval Nugent, had the castle rebuilt in the Romantic style. Another restoration took place in 1952, based on historical graphics from the late 18th century.
