Schloss Düneck, a castle-like building, is in an extensive park in Moorrege, Schleswig-Holstein. It was originally conceived as a country house for the German-American Michael Lienau.

History+

Michael Lienau, a wine merchant and textile entrepreneur from Uetersen, returned to Germany with his second wife. In 1871, he commissioned his brother Detlef Lienau, an American architect, to build his new domicile. The site was leveled and covered with clay soil from the marsh to create the park. After Lienau's death in 1893, the estate saw various uses, including a sanatorium for girls at risk of alcoholism and later a psychiatric hospital, which had to close after suicides occurred.
