Dußlingen Castle

Dußlingen Castle, also known as Herter, is a ruined castle located in the municipality of Dußlingen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Tübingen.

The castle was presumably built in the second third of the 13th century, as indicated by the Staufer-era bossage masonry walled up on the ground floor. Owners of the castle were the Lords of Dußlingen, a noble family that named itself after the town of Dußlingen since the 12th century and at times served the Counts Palatine of Tübingen. In 1266, the castle was mentioned as being in the possession of the Herter family, after whom the castle received the byname Herter. In 1725, the municipality of Dußlingen acquired the building, which served as the town hall until 1949.

The former castle complex, of which only wall remnants with bossage masonry remain, also included the no longer existing St. James and St. Andrew's Chapel on the moat.
