In 1326, Dutzenthal is first mentioned with the designation "behausung Totzzentale". The name Dutzenthal presumably means "...stream bed where cattails grow" (comparable to the name "Dutzenteich"). "Dutzen" refers to the bloom of reeds or cattails (Typha spec.).
