Schloss Dyck, one of the most significant moated castles in the Rhineland, is located in Jüchen in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. This complex features a main castle and two outer baileys, surrounded by a triple moat system.

History+

The origins of the fortification date back to 1094, when a “Hermannus de Dicco” was first mentioned as its owner. In 1383, the castle was besieged by an alliance of troops from Cologne and Aachen, as well as Duke Wilhelm of Jülich and Geldern, after Gerhard von Dyck was accused of being a robber baron. Following its capture, he was forced to destroy the main castle, which was, however, rebuilt ten years later. After Gerhard's death in 1394, Johann V. von Reifferscheidt inherited the complex, establishing the Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck line.
