In the Haßberge district, Bavaria, Ebelsbach Castle, a Renaissance complex, rises in Ebelsbach. Although the estate was severely damaged by a fire in 2009, reconstruction is planned.

History+

The von Rotenhan family has been associated with Ebelsbach since 1355, when Conrad von Rotenhan zu Rentweinsdorf was enfeoffed with estates by the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. Around 1385, Nikolaus von Rotenhan already called himself “zu Ebelsbach”. In 1449, the brothers Marx and Jobst von Rotenhan pledged their “seat and dwelling” to the Michelsberg Abbey in Bamberg as a fief. The complicated dominion relationships led to a feud with Heinz Fuchs zu Wallburg in 1467. The original medieval seat was completely rebuilt in the early modern period. The current castle structure was mainly built between 1564 and 1569 under Matthäus III.
