Ebenau Castle

The origins of the Ebenau estate date back to the year 1200, when it was first assigned to Viktring Abbey. In 1530, the Dietrichstein zu Hollenburg family acquired the site and erected the current Renaissance castle in the late 16th century. As early as 1604, the castle passed into bourgeois ownership before being reacquired by Viktring Abbey in 1670. The Cistercians subsequently used it as a dairy farm, which was later leased out. In the 18th century, the manor house served as the abbot's summer residence. After the dissolution of the abbey, Ebenau experienced several changes of ownership.
